JORDAN Cox says Warrington Wolves’ coaching staff have already helped improve his defensive game.

The 6’4 prop arrived from Hull KR in the off-season and was delighted to rack up 18 tackles and no misses from the bench in the win at Leeds.

He praised the help of Tony Smith, Richard Agar, Lee Briers and Jon Clarke.

“I don’t normally like the D aspect of the game,” admitted the 23-year-old.

“I love carrying the ball and would do that all day long, but Clarkey and TS have helped me massively on my D.

“Rich has been big for giving me tips on my D and I didn’t have any misses against Leeds, 18 tackles and no misses, so it must have been all right.

“I’ve just got to keep building. The drier the pitch, the more it suits my game.

"Then I can get the ball in one hand and mess around with it, pop it out. While the weather isn't great we’ve got to play smart and play safe.”

And Cox is feeling the benefits of training under head of coaching and rugby Smith.

“It’s totally different, it’s good to have Tony around,” he added. “I don’t want to blow smoke up his backside, but he’s been nothing but good for me.

“He’s the type of coach I need. He’ll always tell me if I’m doing something wrong but also praise me if I’m doing something right.

“He’s the type of guy that will put his arm around you and speak to you about little things.

“But it’s not just him, people like JC. I think Jon Clarke will be a massive signing, something that the fans might not really know but I think he’ll be a massive signing for the club.

"Rich and Briersy have been great for me too, helping me on my game and I’ve loved every minute of it so far.”
