MATCH-winning goal kicker Kurt Gidley says he is relishing his new experiences in Super League.

The former Australia and New South Wales star has played in massive games in his career but he said the game at Headingley was a new challenge.

His conversion of Kevin Penny's late try meant the two points were coming home to Warrington.

"For me this is all a new experience, I have never played here (at Headingley) before. So new grounds and new fans. The crowd was really good tonight, whether for or against us," he said.

"Playing in front of a big crowd in a big game, these are the matches you want to play in."

And he said the 12-10 victory meant it was mission accomplished for the Wolves.

He added: "It has been a massive win. We wanted to get off to a good start and anything other than a win would not have been acceptable.

"We were expecting a tough game as Leeds are the reigning champions.

"We have been working really hard on our defence and all that effort brought its reward tonight."

He also had high words of praise for the match-winning talent of his half back partner Chris Sandow.

He added: "We are all aware of how massively talented Chris is and if he can be himself, he is exceptionally talented."

But there is plenty to improve before Hull KR come to The Halliwell Jones Stadium next Sunday, February 14.

"We were really tough in defence but there is plenty of room for improvement. So we need to complete more sets and have more of the ball ourselves."
