WOLVES chairman Steven Broomhead believes Super League XXI is the most exciting for the Wire in his 16 years involvement at the club.

Sweeping changes in the off season following a disappointing 2015 campaign mean a raft of players will make their debuts in the season opener at Leeds on Thursday.

Mr Broomhead said the arrival of Kurt Gidley, Tom Lineham, Joe Westerman, Mitchel Dodds, Ryan Bailey and Chris Sandow among others gives fans plenty of reason for optimism.

And he thinks 2016 will be the most open Super League for some time.

He added: "The big signings are important as is the investment we have made off the pitch.

"We have the new shop, new bars so the home match day experience will be very different. And the new sound system is important.

"We are now treating our fans as proper customers and valuing their views on the experience of the games and match days.

"A lot of good things were done in the past but now we are more modern and professional.

"In the past nine months Roger (Draper) has put forward a number of new ideas and from the board's point of view we have supported his vision because it is good for the club."

And he said the work of fellow board members Simon Moran, Stuart Middleton and Mike Lomax has added to the professionalism off the pitch.

He added that the return of the reserve league was another important change for 2016.

"It gives us a chance to have a squad rather than just a first team", he added.

Mr Broomhead also believes 2016 will see changes elsewhere in Super League.

He added; "I don't think we will see the continued dominance of Leeds and it will be a more competitive and open league.

"Looking at the early fixtures, I am really looking forward to the Salford and Catalans games next month.

"From my point of view, a successful season would be winning one of the major trophies, and of course the one we want to win is the Challenge Cup at Wembley.

"Our stated ambition is to be the best rugby league club in the world – but I would settle for Europe.

"And it is hard to quantify but a successful team is good for the town. It puts a smile on peoples' faces.

"So we will be aiming to make a lot of people smile this season."
