NOT being selected for England in the end-of-season series against New Zealand after being named in the squad will provide Ben Currie with motivation during 2016.
“I was very pleased with making the squad and I would have liked the chance to play,” said Wolves’ 2015 top try scorer.
“The target for 2016 is to put the shirt on.
“Last year I started every game for Warrington and I wasn’t used to not playing so it’s definitely made me hungry this year.
“I decided on not taking too much of an off-season after not playing with England.
“While with the national squad I’d trained hard and kept myself fit.
“I could have had longer off but I wanted to get straight back to work to get bigger, better and stronger for this season.
“We’ve got a young squad and it’s really looking good for us this year.”
The 21-year-old, who has been kept busy between seasons with buying his first house too, made a real impact in the back row or centre in 2015 but said he had not realised he topped the club’s try charts.
“I only found out when I was in Tenerife on the training camp and some of the boys were asked the question in a quiz,” he said.
“I’d have said Joel Monaghan finished top but I must have just pipped him at the end and I’m happy with that.
“I’ll take it and I wouldn’t mind doing it again this year.”
