TONY Smith expects Warrington Wolves to build on their final-day flourish at St Helens for next season.

The club’s head of coaching and rugby also says it was important to repay the faith shown in his side by Wolves’ supporters.

The Wire stormed to a 32-16 success at Langtree Park in their last Super League Super 8s outing of the 2015 campaign, thanks to tries from Jack Johnson, Joel Monaghan, Chris Hill, Ryan Atkins, Roy Asotasi and Kevin Penny.

That followed a 48-6 drubbing of Catalans Dragons a round previous at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Despite saying goodbye to names among the try scorers such as Asotasi, Monaghan and Richie Myler, Smith believes Wolves will take confidence from their final two encounters into the off-season.

“It was a nice finish, particularly for our fans and travelling support that have supported us all year,” said Smith.

“It was a good all-round team performance and we want to build on that for pre-season and next season, so it was important for us to repay the people who have supported us so much.”

The Warrington squad were in several days last week for testing, before heading to Golden Square for the club’s membership drive on Saturday.

“Most of the players will be off for a month and back in on November 2,” added Smith.
