WARRINGTON Wolves may have little to play for in their remaining Super League fixtures, but Ben Currie is determined to use the rest of the Super 8s to cement his England spot.

The 21-year-old is part of coach Steve McNamara’s Elite Training Squad that will meet at St George’s Park ahead of the autumn internationals against New Zealand.

Currie, Wolves’ top try scorer with 17 so far this season, hopes the club can finish 2015 strongly as he bids to make the final England cut.

“We’ve still got to finish the season strongly and that’ll help me individually as well,” said the versatile second row.

“Even when the team’s not performing you need to try and focus on yourself as well and make sure your performance is the best it can be, as each game Steve Mac is watching and analysing you.

“There’s another meeting at the end of this month, but I’m not too sure when he names the squad. I’ll keep on my toes and keep ready for it really.”

Currie can call on the international experience of teammates like Chris Hill and Ben Westwood, who has backed his young rival to make the final squad ahead of November 1's opener at Hull's KC Stadium.

But Currie, who has also played for Ireland, admits just the chance to train alongside England’s elite will stand him in good stead.

“If I do get picked or whether I play or not, just to be around all the talent that’s there and go away with them for a couple of weeks, I’m sure I’ll pick up a lot from them,” he explained.

“It’s always good to know some familiar faces around the room, but I know quite a few of the boys from other teams as well so it makes it a lot easier to settle in.

“I’ve been through a few camps myself over the years; I know how they all work. They’re your team once you get there and you get on a lot easier.

“With someone like Bennie Westwood, what he’s done over the years and in a similar position to me as well, I’ve tried to learn a lot off him – if he’s singing my praises then happy days!”

But the Wolves Academy graduate is confident he can improve again in primrose and blue for 2016.

“I feel like I’ve had a good year personally, but just like the team it’s been up and down and nowhere near as consistent as I wanted it to be,” said Currie.

“I’ve had some really good highs and a couple of lows, but each year I play I feel like I’m improving so hopefully there’s more to come.

“You have to try and take the positives and I feel I can take a personal positive out of it, but know in myself there’s a lot more to come so I look forward to next year.

"We’ve brought a couple of players in. Jack Hughes I know from the amateur game, he’s a couple of years older than me and lives where I am so it’ll be good to see him come in."
