WHEN these sides met in the latter stages of the Super League competition last season it was to battle for a Grand Final place.

Wigan Warriors won that play-offs semi final in 2014, but while they look set to reach the last four once again Warrington know defeat could officially end their hopes.

Wigan suffered defeat at leaders Leeds Rhinos last time out at Headingley, but that was their only loss since they were beaten by Warrington on July 2.

Before the Super 8s second-round loss last week, Shaun Wane’s side had put together victories in the regular season against Leeds, Widnes Vikings and Hull FC and in Super 8s round one against Huddersfield Giants.

Warrington were 17-6 victors at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in the July meeting between the two, making it one apiece in wins this season after a 20-30 defeat at the DW Stadium in April.

Second-placed Warriors lost influential hooker Micky McIlorum at Leeds when the England international collided with teammate George Williams and suffered an eye injury.

But he makes Wigan’s 19.

Wolves will be wary of the threat NRL-bound winger Joe Burgess will bring, with Super League’s joint top try scorer this season crossing 21 times so far this campaign.
