WARRINGTON’S vice skipper Chris Hill is taking a leaf out of the Adrian Morley book of leadership.

Wolves visit Castleford tonight, Thursday, kick off 8pm, following losses to Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos.

Hill recognises his role in trying to lift the Wolves camp after back-to-back defeats, but takes a similar approach to the club’s former Challenge Cup-winning captain.

“I’m not one for bawling and shouting,” said Hill. “I take a bit from when Moz was here. Moz was big on if you lead on the pitch people will follow you that way.

“On Friday morale was a bit low, but Sunday we were all back in buzzing and looking forward to Cas.

“There is no more motivation than trying to get that fourth spot. If we lose this week it makes it even harder for ourselves.

“The lads are all keen and ready to go and know we can put our wrongs right this week, which we didn’t do against Leeds.”

But the England international expects a much tougher test than when Wolves beat hosts Castleford 44-6 just over a fortnight ago.

“They’ve improved in patches and we’ve got to get back to something like we were that weekend and like against Wigan at home," said the 27-year-old.

“We went in to Leeds last week with a ‘must win’ mentality, we didn’t quite perform to how we should have and we were all disappointed, but it’s a new week.

“We’re going to have to (get results), it’s as simple as that. We put ourselves in this position and it’s only us who can get out of it.

“We need to be turning teams over around us and then probably hope for a few results falling our way as well.”

Hill says the thought of not making the play-offs hasn’t crossed the mind of his teammates.

“No one’s even mentioned it,” he added. “We know we can get there and we know if we put performances together like we have done, not consistently enough, but if we start getting consistent we know we can get that fourth.

“Injuries have hampered us but everyone has injuries. At one point we had about 12 or 13 out, one day I was messing around on the board with lads that were injured a making a team full of them.

“We can’t put it down to that, the 17 that take the field should be good enough to do the job and last week we weren’t good enough.

“We welcome a few boys back this week that’ll hopefully be a boost to us, but all the boys are ready anyway.”

That includes Ben Westwood after suspension.

“He has a wealth of experience, he’s one of the stalwarts of Super League is super Ben and he’ll bring a lot to us,” said Hill.

And the prop has so far been impressed by new arrival Chris Sandow.

He added: “He’s a funny little character, a really good bloke and gelling in really nicely. We saw a couple of glimpses of him Friday with his kicking game.

“The sharpness he needs to get back, but he’s still got some and he’s ready to go.

“You can see it day in, day out the way he goes about his training and he’s eager to improve and get better.”
