ASHTON Sims is desperate to end a career trophy drought.

The 30-year-old never collected any silverware during his time with St George Illawarra, Brisbane and North Queensland in the NRL.

But the Fiji captain is one step away from a Challenge Cup final outing in his first season at Warrington Wolves.

“I’m real excited,” said Sims. “I’ve never won a trophy back home so to have the chance of winning one over here was the biggest factor in me coming to Warrington.

“They’re two of the things you want to do; you want to win the Super League and you want to win the Challenge Cup.

“We’ve got a big game against Hull KR, who are a tough side and last time we played them they gave us the number.

“I know everyone in the team is really focused and ready to go on Saturday.

“I know we’ll get a good crowd there and it’ll be full of Warrington supporters, so hopefully the fans get out there and want to keep us on this roll.”

Fellow off-season arrival Daryl Clark suffered cup final heartache last season with hometown club Castleford Tigers and is keen to avenge that in primrose and blue.

“I got an experience of Wembley last year when we got to the final,” explained the 22-year-old reigning Man of Steel.

“I was disappointed with the loss, so hopefully we have a chance to get back there again this year and I can be on the winning side.”

Australian half back Chris Sandow is due to arrive in Warrington this weekend, and Sims is looking forward to playing alongside someone he faced many times in the NRL.

“It’s great, he’s going to give us some leadership on the field and he’s a top player,” said Sims. “I really can’t wait for him to get over here and get to meet him.

“I’ve played against him a lot but I’ve never really got to meet him properly. I’ve heard great things about him, so I’m looking forward to the big fella getting over.”

He was impressed with the 44-6 win at Castleford on Sunday and Sims wants to take that form into the Super 8s.

“We’ve been building towards that for a while, but we know the next time we play Cas they’re going to be a lot tougher and it’s going to be a good game next time.

We’ve been looking well as a team, especially the past five weeks,” he added. “We didn’t get the result against Saints but I thought we executed a lot of things really well.

“We’re just moving forward with our rugby and we’ve got a big game next week.

“We’re still a little bit away from the top four where we want to be, but the win was a big step forward.

“We’re ruing a couple of our tight losses earlier in the year, but there’s nothing you can do about it now. We’ve got to get on a good roll and that’s at the forefront of everyone’s mind.”
