WARRINGTON Wolves expect to confirm the signing of Parramatta Eels half back Chris Sandow before Friday’s Super League transfer deadline.

The 26-year-old looks set to arrive at The Halliwell Jones Stadium for the remainder of this season on a two-year deal until the end of 2017.

“We are very hopeful that we will have secured Chris both for 2016 and 2017 and also for the remainder of the season,” said Wolves chief executive Roger Draper.

The deal is subject to Sandow passing a medical and having a work permit approved.

After long and complex negotiations, with Sandow reportedly insisting he was owed $200,000 in unpaid third-party agreements, NRL outfit Parramatta have now confirmed their release of the scrum half.

A statement from the NRL club reads: "The Parramatta Eels have today agreed to release Chris Sandow effective immediately, pending lodgement with the NRL.

"The club thanks Chris for his time at the Eels and wishes him all the best for his future."

The former South Sydney Rabbitohs player faces a two-game ban after he took an early guilty plea following a grade two shoulder charge committed in Eels’ loss to Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs last Friday.

He would not be available to Wolves until the Super 8s start in August.

Meanwhile, captain Joel Monaghan will return to Wolves’ squad for Sunday’s clash with Castleford after a calf injury.

“Just to get numbers back is a boost. We’re down to five injured players at the moment, so coming from where we were it’s a boost,” said the club’s head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith.

“Joel brings leadership as well as try-scoring ability and experience. He’s a great catcher of the ball in both defending kicks and catching kicks, as well as being a big, strong experienced player.”

Rhys Evans is set for his first game since a shoulder injury in February. The winger will go with partner-club North Wales Crusaders.

“It’s great that he’s back in the mix and on the right track, so I’m delighted,” said Smith.

“The temptation would be to throw Rhys straight back in but he hasn’t played rugby since February, so it’s a little soon for him.”

Smith says there is a lot to play for heading into the Super 8s and with a Challenge Cup semi final against Hull KR around the corner.

“The players are doing it on a weekly basis, performing to try and get themselves in the team, but certainly when there are big games like the cup coming up nobody wants to miss out on those,” he explained.

“That’s good for us and we’re fighting hard.

“We want to keep in touch with the top four in Super League and have a semi final in the cup, so there’s a lot to play for at the moment both as a team and individually.”

Smith expects Ben Evans (hamstring) to be back in full training inside a month, while George King (elbow) is close to a return and Simon Grix continues to recover from a long-term lay off.
