WARRINGTON Wolves decided it was best that Micky Higham did not play in last night’s cup clash against Dewsbury Rams and it has emerged the hooker is to have talks with his boss next week.

Wolves are unhappy that Leigh Centurions made an approach to sign him without the club’s knowledge and while under contract until the end of 2015.

First-team coach Richard Agar said: “Was Micky rested? You could say that.

“We’ve had a difficult week. I think it’s been well documented some of the stuff that’s gone on and we just didn’t feel that Micky was in the right place to play.

“And with Brad Dwyer coming back from London Broncos, it made that decision a little bit easier for us.

“Micky’s got a further meeting planned with Tony Smith early next week to sort all the position out.”

Asked if the Higham situation had got to the stage of him possibly leaving, despite the club’s retraction earlier in the week, Agar said: “I did a radio show with Tony last night and I thought he made the position really clear.

“Usually when clubs want to sign another player they approach through the front door and speak to the club first but it would appear in this situation we were the last people to get to know about this, which created a situation and a difficult week for us this week.

“The coach felt Micky wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play this game and as I say that decision was made a little bit easier with the fact we’d got Brad Dwyer coming back.

“So Micky’s got some more plans for talks with Tony I would suspect after the weekend.”

Wolves revealed on Monday that a bid for Higham, whose current terms with Wolves run out at the end of the year, from Leigh had been rejected.

The club statement said: "Following recent speculation, Warrington Wolves can confirm that the club has received a request from Leigh Centurions to sign Micky Higham with immediate effect.

"Micky is contracted at the Wolves until the end of the current 2015 season and as such the club has turned down this request from the Championship side.

"He is a key part of our first team and one of our more influential and experienced players. We believe he has a big role to play in the future success of 2015.

"Fellow hooker Daryl Clark is currently on the sidelines through injury therefore the club has also called back Brad Dwyer, on loan at London Broncos, for a month with immediate effect."
