A WARRINGTON Wolves home game next month has been rescheduled.

The Super League Round 10 fixture against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats has been moved from Sunday, April 12, kick off 3pm, to Saturday, April 11, kick off 1.30pm.

Wolves chiefs say the change to Saturday is brought about by player welfare, while the early start time is to avoid a clash with the Grand National at Aintree.

It is the second Sunday afternoon game to have been brought forward a day since the season's fixtures were announced last October, the other being the home opener against Salford Red Devils.

By the time Wolves face Widnes Vikings at home in Round 13 on May 3, Tony Smith's men will have played only one match in the traditional Sunday 3pm slot.

Early April is a tricky period for clubs to manage, with Wolves set to play four games in 15 days - Widnes away on Thursday, April 2, Castleford at home on Monday, April 6, Wakefield at home on Saturday, April 11, and Wigan away on Thursday, April 16.

A Wolves statement announcing the Wakefield fixture change reads: "The amendment has been made on player welfare grounds to allow more recovery time between fixtures.

"The early afternoon kick-off time has been chosen to ensure all supporters still have the opportunity to catch this year's Grand National at 4.15pm on that Saturday."

Wolves' under 19s Academy match against St Helens, scheduled to be played as the curtain raiser to the Wakefield clash, has also been altered as a consequence.

"Following this fixture change the Wolves U19s Academy match against St Helens has been rescheduled and will remain as a curtain-raiser to be played at 11am," the statement reads.
