HEAD coach Lee Briers praised his young side’s composure as they overcame Cumbria Regional Academy under 19s 76-8 on Friday at Victoria Park Arena.

Hat-tricks of tries for Harvey Livett and David Foggin-Johnston were added to by two for Jack Fox and one apiece for Harry Reardon, Declan Kay, James Jones and Brad Stanway.

Briers said: “I was delighted with the way that the lads approached the game and kept their focus for the full 80 minutes.

“A lot of the lads have not played for seven months and have had to be very patient but they have gone out there and shown why they are Warrington Wolves players.

“The composure that they showed for such young lads was really good and they stuck to the structures that we have instilled into them.

“I must give great credit to the Cumbria side who are very new to this level. They refused to lie down and did play some really good stuff at times, which tested our lads, and it was only due to the excellent defensive work that we put in that kept them down to just two tries.

“It really is a hotbed of rugby league in Cumbria and we wish them every success as they aim to get a team back at the highest level.”

Next up for Briers’ under 19s is a clash with their Salford Red Devils counterparts at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday, 5.30pm, before the senior team’s Super League game with Leeds Rhinos.

Briers added: “This should be a very competitive game and we are looking forward to playing before the Super League game.”
