WARRINGTON Wolves are continuing to invest in their development by introducing a new indoor training facility.

North West-based Thornton Sports were appointed to install a high performance 3G artificial grass sports pitch within the club’s new purpose-built structure at the University of Chester’s Warrington Padgate campus.

The surface chosen for the new 1350m² pitch was Thornton Sports’ in-house UK manufactured Rugby Pro M product, over a 20mm deep in-situ rubber shockpad layer.

Professor Steven Broomhead, Woves chairman, said: “Our players couldn’t wait to get onto the new surface and have used it day-in, day-out since project completion.

“It plays fantastically and will be an invaluable resource in terms of player development.”

This surface meets the performance requirements of IRB regulation 22, which confirms its suitability for full-contact rugby.

Football can also be played on the surface, as confirmed by IATS certification.

The new facility will sit alongside other training facilities already on site including a purpose-built gym, coaching and physio rooms, running track and training field.

Primarily the pitch will be for training use by Warrington Wolves, however the University of Chester and the local community will also have access.
