MICHAEL Monaghan is among several ex-Wolves employees plying their trade away from The Halliwell Jones Stadium this season – and he will pit his wits against his former club on Saturday.

Joint club captain last season, Monaghan's retirement at the end of the 2014 campaign has seen him join the coaching ranks at Catalans Dragons, Wolves’ opponents in Super League Round Three.

As the Australian took up the assistant coach position at Stade Gilbert Brutus, Wolves' own assistant coaches from last season also moved on.

Willie Poching is now number two to Chris Chester at Hull KR, while Richard Marshall took the head coach role at Championship outfit Halifax.

Brett Hodgson and Jon Clarke also occupy positions with Widnes Vikings as assistant coach and strength and conditioning coach, respectively.

And Warrington's head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith feels it is a compliment to the club that others wanted to acquire their services.

“They all add to the environment while they’re here, but they go on to new and different environments," said Smith.

“They’ve got different people to work with and hopefully they’ve improved and learned some stuff from the time they were here, but they’ll certainly continue to do that if they’re decent coaches.

“I don’t think it makes it any harder to play against their clubs. There are a lot of good coaches out there and lot of good teams.

“It’s great to have some ex-Wolves around the place, it shows that we do some good things here and people want to attain their services.”
