TONY Smith remarked upon Wolves’ “competency” levels in the 40-0 defeat of Hull Kingston Rovers in Chris Bridge’s Testimonial game at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“It was a good, solid performance and we’re pleased with it,” said Wolves' head of coaching and rugby.

“We were pretty competent in both sides of the game and executed what we’ve been practicing.

“We recently came back from Tenerife where we did a whole lot of work in warm weather.

“You want to put that into action back in our weather conditions and on the whole we did.

“I thought we were on the game both defensively and offensively.

“Zero points scored against us is always a satisfaction when you come off the field, but I thought our attack was nice and solid too.

“We took some good options, asked some good questions of our opponents and I also really liked our kicking game – that was outstanding too.

“Have we got things to work on? Absolutely. We’ve got some stuff that we know about that just wasn’t quite as smooth as we need it to be when there’s two points up for grabs but we’ve had two good friendlies and we’re looking forward to getting into the season now.”
