MATTY Russell will return to see a specialist on Monday morning after his teeth were knocked out again in today’s Warrington Wolves clash with Toulouse.

Ben Harrison also took a bang to his ribs in the same game, prior to Wolves' match-up with Hull Kngston Rovers.

Russell, the 21-year-old former Wigan and Gold Coast Titans full back, departed the action midway through the first half after a high tackle knocked out the temporary gnashers he has had in place since losing teeth in a challenge by Widnes Vikings’ Macgraff Leuluai last September.

Scotland international Russell suffered a similar issue on the club’s warm-weather training camp in Tenerife 12 days ago, forcing him to return home early for treatment.

“Poor old Matty can’t take a trick at the moment,” said Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby.

“He had a training mishap in Tenerife and had to come back and get his teeth glued back in because they snapped off.

“They’ve snapped again today. They’ve managed to sit them back in and he’ll be back to see the consultant again in the morning.”

Smith said Russell, who impressed as Super League’s highest metre maker last year, is closer to having a permanent solution but no timescale is in place.

“The ones he has at the moment are porcelain and they snap quite easily. We understand that and Matty does too.

“The more permanent ones have to go in after a certain amount of time, to allow the gums to settle down.

“They’ll be implants that screw in. We’re just waiting for the go-ahead for that and once he gets that he won’t have any more problems.”

Cumbrian forward Harrison’s rib injury may not leave him unavailable for the first Super League game at home to Salford Red Devils on Saturday, February 7, kick off 3pm.

Smith said: “It doesn’t look great and it’ll take a couple of weeks to settle down. Fortunately, we’ve got a couple of weeks.”
