TONY Smith will not be putting any pressure on Daryl Clark to wow fans when they get their first glimpse of him in primrose and blue on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Steve Prescott Man of Steel winner will be Warrington Wolves’ starting hooker against Hull KR, the final friendly before the Super League opener with Salford.

Smith admits the former Castleford Tigers man has already shown his class in training, but will not be asking too much, too soon from his new signing.

“It’s been a couple of weeks now, he’s fitted in really well,” said Smith, who handed Clark an extended break after his Four Nations outing with England.

“It’s like he’s been there for ages, he’s a mature young guy and when you work with him you can understand why he’s got all the accolades he has in recent times.

“I’m looking forward to it but we also need to give him time to form combinations with the players, not put too much pressure on him as well.

“He’s a quality player, he trains well and he’s fitted in exceptionally well.”

Clark says he will also not be putting any pressure on himself, but knows what is expected of someone stepping into the role vacated by former skipper Michael Monaghan.

“He was a great player for the club and was a big player in the game,” said the England international.

“It’s big boots to fill and hopefully I can do it justice and pull out some good performances throughout the year.

“But I’m pretty laid back really. I don’t put too much pressure on myself. There’ll always be pressure from other people.

“I want to get off to a good start and have an impact as quickly as possible, so I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure that’s not just in the first game but throughout the season.”

Micky Higham will also feature against Hull KR, while on-trial hooker Andy Ackers will start against Toulouse.

“Micky will be starting off the bench so when Daryl needs a break we’ll bring him on,” added Smith. “We’ll work some combinations out and I’m sure he will too.

“Andy’s slotted in well. He’s previously been part of our system so it hasn’t taken him long to fit back in.

“He impressed all of us in Tenerife. He just needs to get on the park and show what he can do again. Hopefully that’ll eventuate in a lot more permanent-like contract.

“He’s raring to go, it’s an opportunity for him and he’s taken the opportunity so far in training with both hands.”

Simon Grix will miss out on Sunday’s double-header, but Smith has an otherwise fully-fit squad to choose from.

Chris Bridge's Testimonial game against Hull KR will be the first under the new captaincy of Joel Monaghan, who will have Chris Hill as his vice skipper this year.

Hill is set to line up with Clark and fellow recruit Ashton Sims in a new-look starting front row on Sunday.
