TONY Smith is unlikely to add to his Warrington Wolves squad despite Paul Wood’s departure.
“The competition for places is enormous this year,” said Smith.
“Paul’s had 16 years here and we wish him the very best in the future – he’ll always remain a big part of what this club’s been about.”
Smith is, however, keen on making hooker Andy Ackers’ trial permanent.
“He’ll be judged purely on performance and he’s been outstanding in training," said Smith. “We were close to signing him in pre-season but were pretty tight on numbers. Paul moving on enabled us to bring someone else in.
“Andy won’t be as costly as Paul so it won’t take up the salary cap, however we’re not in any rush to fill any positions.
“He’ll play a game against Toulouse to hopefully secure a more permanent position with the club.”
