WARRINGTON Wolves’ players head into the end-of-season break knowing several changes await them on their return in November.

For a majority of Tony Smith’s side, pre-season training will begin on November 17, while players requiring operations and on international duty return at a later date.

When Wolves resume they will be without retired skipper Michael Monaghan, who has agreed to join Catalan Dragons as assistant coach, as well as the departing Trent Waterhouse and Chris Riley.

The Warrington players will also work under new coaching staff, with assistants Willie Poching and Richard Marshall heading for the exit as Richard Agar arrives.

Poching will be an assistant at Hull KR next season, while Marshall is taking over at Championship outfit Halifax.

As for Agar, who officially joins Warrington on November 17, Smith says the France coach is already having an input at the club.

“Rich has been attending a lot of games,” said Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby.

“He’s already making some contributions and suggestions about our planning towards next year. He’s excited about joining us and will be a great addition.”

Strength and conditioning coach Mike Turner will arrive from Wigan Warriors in the off season, when he and Agar will team up with new signings Ashton Sims and Daryl Clark.

“Having spoken to Ashton recently, he’s very excited about the next part of his career and he’s going to give a really good account of himself,”

Smith added about the Fiji international.

Clark, meanwhile, will first of all play alongside future teammates Chris Hill and Stefan Ratchford in England colours during the Four Nations in Australia and New Zealand later this month.

The series will pit the trio against some players from Wolves’ opponents in next year’s World Club Series, St George Illawarra Dragons, with the NRL giants coming to the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday, February 20.

“We’ve got three international players in Stefan, Hilly and Daryl,”

explained Smith.

“They’ll have their break after the Four Nations and will resume (preseason) around Christmas time.”

Smith is waiting on a final list of players who will need to be operated on, but they’re expected to include Simon Grix (shoulder), Bennie Westwood (calf) and Matty Russell (teeth). Smith will, however, hope he has a full roster for the club’s warm-weather training camp in Tenerife in January.
