WOLVES new boy Daryl Clark will head to Australia with extra twinkles in his eyes after capping his Castleford Tigers 2014 Super League season with double honours from the Steve Prescott Man of Steel Awards night.

The 21-year-old hooker, who starts a four-year contract with Warrington in 2015, is set to make his England debut in the Four Nations after a stunning year with Cas that brought him a debut Challenge Cup Final debut and was capped by last night’s Man of Steel and Young Player of the Year prizes.

He beat Wolves’ Chris Hill, Saints’ James Roby and Leeds’ Jamie Peacock to the main award.

“I was a bit shocked, it was crazy,” said Clark, whose inspirational dummy-half play also helped Tigers to their best Super League finish of fourth.

“I never thought for one second I would win both, so you can imagine how I’m feeling. It was just overwhelming.”

Prop Hill, who along with Wolves teammate Stefan Ratchford join Clark for the Four Nations tour, said Clark was a worthy winner.

"No complaints from me," he said. "He's been a stand-out player throughout the league."

Receiving acknowledgement from his peers is a great way Clark to head into the Four Nations as one of only two hookers in the England squad, the other being Josh Hodgson from Hull Kingston Rovers.

“It means I’ve probably been doing something right through the year and it’s good to be noticed for what you do.

“Winning trophies is always special. It’s probably the two main trophies in the game so this takes it to another level for me and it’s unbelievable.

“My phone hasn’t stopped vibrating with messages and phone calls, so it’s been a busy day. I’ve had some nice messages off people, including some I’ve not heard from for a while so that’s nice too.

“It’s all a massive confidence booster. It’s going to give me a lot of confidence going over there and hopefully I can do well for England, showing over there some of what I’ve shown all year.”

And Warrington fans will be drooling over the prospect of what is to come in primrose and blue next season too.

The England squad head out to Australia on Tuesday, with matches to come against Samoa at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, on Saturday, October 25, kick off 7am; Australia at AAMI Park, Melbourne, on Sunday, November 2, kick off 5am; New Zealand at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin, New Zealand, on Saturday, November 8, kick off 7am.
