WIGAN Warriors have failed to win their last four home meetings with Warrington Wolves.

Not since gaining a fraction of revenge for the previous week’s Challenge Cup semi-final loss to Warrington in 2009 have the Cherry and Whites got the better of Tony Smith’s side.

Warrington clocked up wins of 23-16, 24-6 and 22-20 in subsequent seasons, although last year’s tussle at the DW Stadium finished 17-17.

Wigan have held the bragging rights since, defeating Wolves in last October’s Grand Final at Old Trafford and edging to a 12-4 Super League success at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on March 20.

And history shows Wigan having the upper hand too, having won 166 of the previous 289 meetings between the clubs.

The current form of Shaun Wane’s 2014 defending champions has been patchy, but they delivered a solid showing to defeat Challenge Cup winners Leeds Rhinos 21-6 at home at the weekend.

Before that match, Wigan lost at Widnes, drew at Hull Kingston Rovers, defeated Salford Red Devils and lost at Bradford Bulls.

During that spell, key players Blake Green – man-of-the-match half back in the 2013 Grand Final – and England hooker Michael McIlorum have been regaining match fitness upon returns from injury.

Since Wolves and Wigan last met, Wane’s assistant Iestyn Harris has taken over at Salford Red Devils, centre Iain Thornley has had his season ended with a knee injury, back rower Joel Tomkins has returned to the club from rugby union and his younger brother Logan remains on loan with Salford City Reds.
