Warrington Wolves under 19s 58 Castleford Tigers under 19s 6

WARRINGTON Wolves bounced back to winning ways in superb style on Friday with a convincing victory over Castleford Tigers in the Under 19s Academy at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The Wolves had suffered defeat in their previous two fixtures but they were always in total control against a brave Castleford side and ran in 10 tries in a thrilling exhibition of fast flowing rugby league that the visitors had no answer to.

Warrington opened the scoring in the sixth minute when prop forward Daniel Murray managed to slip the ball out in the tackle and full back Jack Johnson picked it up and raced through a gap before rounding his opposite number with ease to score at the side of the posts.

Stand off Declan Patton converted and three minutes later a fine ball from scrum half Louis Jouffret found Patton, who stepped round the defence to score at the side of the posts for a try that he converted himself.

Before the midway point of the half a superb tackle by Wolves saw Tigers lose the ball just inside the Wolves half and centre Harvey Livett picked up the loose ball and go 55 metres to score between the posts.

Patton converted and then nine minutes later a high kick on the last tackle by Jouffret was fumbled by the Castleford full back and hooker Sean Kenny picked up the loose ball to race over at the side of the posts. Patton added the conversion.

Just after the half hour quick hands close to the Tigers line stretched their defence and a lovely ball from Wolves’ second row Joe Philbin found centre Toby King, who forced his way over in the left corner.

Three minutes before the break a kick on the last tackle by Patton saw the ball fumbled into touch by the Tigers defence and from the resulting scrum Patton found T King who went over wide on the left. Patton converted to make the half time score 34-0 to the rampant Wolves.

The Wolves stretched their lead 12 minutes into the second half when slick handling close to the Tigers line saw the ball reach Livett, who put winger Ben Stansfield over in the right corner.

Patton goaled brilliantly from the touchline and six minutes later a superb ball from Patton put prop forward George King through a gap and he broke clear before finding second row Philbin in support. Patton added the conversion.

Castleford were rewarded for their efforts when hooker Brandon Moore went from dummy half to score between the posts after loose forward Brad Foster had been held just short.

Stand off Danny Sowerby converted but the Wolves were soon back on the offensive and a chip kick towards the Castleford posts by Patton on the last tackle saw Kenny react quickest to pounce on the loose ball to score at the side of the posts and bring up the half century. Patton again added the conversion.

Right on the stoke of full time Wolves winger Jake Eccleston broke away down the left and he kicked back inside and, although the Tigers collected the ball, T King stole it in a one-on-one tackle and went over to complete a fine hat-trick. Patton converted once again to round off a very impressive 58-6 victory.
