WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats will be hoping to end a run of nine successive Super League defeats against Warrington Wolves when they visit The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday, 3pm.

Wildcats have not beaten Wolves in five years, their last victory coming in 2009 when they did a Super League double over the Warrington side.

The Yorkshire outfit were 48-22 winners at home in February that year, before going to The Halliwell Jones Stadium in August and enjoying a 40-28 victory the week before Wolves’ Challenge Cup Final appearance.

The last time these sides met Richard Agar was the Wakefield boss, the former Featherstone man has since left the club and agreed to a role as Tony Smith’s number two at Wolves next season.

Wolves ran out 36-4 in Yorkshire in May thanks to tries from Stefan Ratchford, Gene Ormsby, Chris Bridge, Ryan Atkins, Richie Myler and a double from Ben Currie.

The visitors’ form has improved since James Webster joined as head coach, before a loss at Catalan Dragons on Saturday Wildcats had gone unbeaten in five games.

They face a Wolves side also looking to bounce back to form after defeat at rivals Widnes Vikings ended their 10-game winning run.

Webster has brought 29-year-old Tim Smith back to the club on a loan deal after he was sold to Salford Red Devils 10 months earlier.

The Australian half back has proved Wildcats’ danger man since his return to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium On-loan Warrington winger Chris Riley is not permitted to play against his parent club, but 2010 Challenge Cup winning teammate Richie Mathers has been a regular in Webster’s side.
