SIX Warrington Wolves players have signed extensions to their current deals as the club continues to promote young British talent.

Gene Ormsby and Anthony England have agreed contract extensions keeping them at the club until November 2016.

Twins Rhys and Ben Evans and James Laithwaite have penned new contracts until November 2017, while young forward George King has agreed a full-time contract with the club until the end of 2016.

For 21-year-old winger Ormsby, the amount of young players coming through Wolves’ ranks provides healthy competition.

“I’ve been working hard this year and it’s paying off,” said the academy graduate, who has scored 11 tries in 15 appearances since making his debut in February.

“I’m now looking forward to establishing myself as a player in Super League.

“We’ve got a lot of young players coming through which is healthy competition and it’s good to see us all working hard and getting our rewards with regular slots in the first team and establishing ourselves as we all came through together.”

The Evans twins, aged 21, progressed through the academy ranks after moving from Bridgend and recently represented Wales in the World Cup last year.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to play a number of games this season so I’m delighted to sign for the club for another three years,” said Ben, who forced his way into the first team this season before suffering a serious ankle injury.

“Rhys has got a two-year extension which takes us both to 2017. We are both tied in for same time – it’s good to be at club together.

“A lot of lads our age have signed long-term contracts which is good for the club to keep on promoting the young players. We’ll be together for a long time now.”

Rhys, who made his Wolves debut in 2010, added: “It’s pleasing for me and Ben to get our new deals, especially for him, I’m over the moon for Ben.

“I’m delighted to be staying here too. We are all getting our shot now having developed at the same time, winning a Grand Final with the under 20s and hopefully we can do the same now with the first team.”

Laithwaite is another to rise through the ranks, making his debut in March last year after being promoted from the academy in 2010.

“It’s great to have re-signed at Warrington,” said the back-rower. “It’s my home-town club, I’ve played all my rugby in Warrington having been part of the town and team since I was 11.

“I’ve worked all the way through, so to sign again was a great moment. I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else.

“This year has been great with so many of the former under 20s coming through. We really feel part of the team playing regularly now.”

England has stepped up from Championship level this season and the 27-year-old has secured his future in Super league with Wolves.

“I’ve just moved to Warrington so it’s all falling into place for me,” he said. “I couldn’t be at a better club.

“I’m just about settling in now, finding my feet and looking to keep improving. I’m now looking to keep pushing myself and the boys and hopefully get some success with silverware.

“There are some good young lads coming through with a lot of talent, there’s a really good system here at Warrington.”

Second-rower King is the latest academy graduate to reach the first team, making his Super League debut against Bradford Bulls, and has been rewarded with a full-time contract.

He joined in the off season from Huddersfield’s academy alongside younger brother Toby, with the pair playing their amateur rugby at Meltham All Blacks.

“I started off at Huddersfield and was lucky enough, when my contract finished there, to get a chance to come here and prove myself in the academy,” said the 19-year-old.

“I worked really hard in academy and when I got the nod to move up to full-time from Tony (Smith) I was really pleased.

“It’s a small step to where I want to go. Coming out at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, seeing the crowd there cheering you on – and even the players in the dressing room – the atmosphere was really good.

“Any youngster coming up wants to play regular Super League games and for me to do that I just need to keep working hard and improving week by week.”
