THE final game at Wilderspool will be played out next month.

Ten years after the last Super League match saw Wolves beat Wakefield at the famous old ground, the Wolves under 16 side will have the honour of playing the final match on Thursday, May 15.

The academy and junior teams who have played their games there in the past decade will now play at the Victoria Park Arena and before and after first team games at The Halliwell Jones.

And so the final game will be between the Wolves under 16s and Cumbria Regional Academy U16s - kick off at 7pm.

The match takes place as the Wolves celebrate heritage month throughout May.

The stadium was opened in 1898. A wooden north stand opened in 1911 and between World Wars this was extended at both ends and given better facilities.

A roof was constructed on the popular side and the original Supporters’ Club financed a second cover and a new scoreboard, all of which turned the stadium into a venue for representative games and finals.

Wilderspool has staged so many epic matches – victories over touring teams, tremendous Challenge and County Cup encounters, the emotional farewell of Brian Bevan in 1962, survival when a first-ever relegation looked certain in 2002. The list is endless.

With a limited number of tickets available for this last fans are urged to sign up on first come, first served basis.

2014 Wolves Season Ticket Holders have a priority booking period until close of play on Wednesday.

They are are entitled to a free ticket but with limited availability these must be applied for ahead of the game.
