WIGAN-born Paul Wood will be gutted to have not made the 19-man squad for the visit of his home town club tonight, despite being declared fit.

The 32-year-old underwent a knee operation in pre season and missed the start of Wolves’ 2014 Super League campaign.

However, boss Tony Smith said the long-serving prop forward is available and likely to play for partner club Swinton Lions against Barrow Raiders on Sunday at Park Lane, home of Sedgley Park.

Smith also confirmed back rower Ben Currie, another to miss out on a spot in the 19-man squad, is not suffering from an injury.

“Ben Currie didn’t make selection,” said Smith. “It’s been a tough one for him as some people ahead of him have come into some form as well.”

Anthony England is Wolves’ only injury concern, but Smith is expecting the prop to return soon after a scan on his foot showed no further damage.

“The scan’s come out clear,” added Smith. “He’s still got a little bit of aggravation in one of the joints, but there’s nothing structurally wrong with it and he should be fine in the next week or so.”
