TONY Smith is eyeing Warrington Wolves’ under 19s’ clash with their Wigan Warriors counterparts on Thursday as a chance to showcase the club’s impressive young talent.

The fixture, which kicks off at 5.30pm, acts as a warm up for when the senior sides meet in the Super League at 8pm.

And Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby said fans arriving early can expect a fantastic game.

“It’s great that we are developing our own talent in this area,” he said. “We’ve got some good young boys coming through and Wigan has been a hot bed for producing good young juniors for many years.

“It’s great now that we are able to produce good, strong teams in the junior ranks ourselves which hopefully will be seen on Thursday.

“I think it will be a fantastic game for those people who want to come along and see some of the talent that’s coming through for both teams; particularly the Warrington boys, who have been very impressive for the last few games.”

The Australian also said he welcomes the arrival of those overseas players who add talent to Super League sides, having himself joined Workington Town for the competition’s inaugural season.

“I think it’s good when you are producing in your own area,” he added. “But it’s also nice to have a spluttering of overseas talent come in that enhance the talent and your team.

“But certainly the local talent is a nice one for any team.”
