WOLVES continued their excellent start to the Academy under 19s season with a convincing victory over Salford Red Devils.

They ran in 10 tries, with loose forward Ryan Maneely and second row Joe Philbin each registering a hat-trick of touchdowns.

The scoring was opened in the fifth minute when a short ball from Wolves scrum half Declan Patton put Philbin through a huge gap and he scored an unconverted try on the left.

Seven minutes later a chip into the in-goal area by Patton was fumbled and Maneely reacted quickest to pounce on the loose ball and score. Centre Harvey Livett added the conversion.

Salford hit back just after the midway point of the half when stand off Kieran Gill managed to twist in the tackle and score at the left of the posts.

Scrum half Dan Lomax converted but when Patton found touch from the re-start Wolves were able to hit back as second row Sam Wilde powered over at the side of the posts. Livett added the conversion.

Wolves moved further clear on the half hour when prop forward George King managed to keep the ball alive in the tackle and he offloaded to Patton who scored between the posts.

When the re-start went straight out on the full the resultant penalty put Wolves deep into Salford territory and lovely play from Maneely put stand off Louis Jouffret through a gap to score wide on the right. Livett landed both conversions.

A minute before the break a great 60-metre run by Wolves substitute Tom Walker split the Salford defence and following a penalty Wolves worked the ball out wide to Philbin, who scored on the left to make the half-time score 32-6.

Salford came out firing at the start of the second half and winger Kyle Dolan scored in the right corner but then four minutes later Patton was held just short and from a quick play the ball Maneely went from dummy half to burrow over on the left.

A carbon-copy try four minutes later saw Maneely dart over from dummy half, with Livett gaoling.

Then on the hour a great kick by Louis Jouffret paved the way for winger David Johnston to go over in the right corner. Livett landed an excellent touchline conversion.

Wolves brought up the half century for the second successive game 13 minutes from time when a bullet pass from Patton sent centre Toby King away down the left and he found Philbin in support to go over for his hat-trick. Livett converted to complete the scoring.
