WOLVES boss Tony Smith is convinced that working alongside NRL clubs in Australia has ensured that this year’s pre-season training camp will prove more useful than the one in 2012.

While Wolves did work alongside South Sydney Rabbitohs and AFL side the Swans last time they travelled Down Under, Smith believes that training with five different NRL clubs as well as the Aussie Rules football team in the past three weeks has exposed his players to a much wider range of benefits.

“The players have been excellent on and off the training field and once again it has been a very successful trip,” he said.

“But working with the NRL clubs has really helped us to improve on the work we got done the last time we were out here.

“There has been so many different NRL cultures and teams that it has been very interesting and extremely beneficial.

“We have had many comments from the players on how useful it has been for their pre-season preparation.

“It has been beneficial because we have learned how many of these very successful clubs operate and experienced the cultures that each of the five different clubs have.”

Most interesting will be what exactly the players picked up from Canterbury Bulldogs, Sydney Roosters, St George Illawarra Dragons, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Manly Sea Eagles that will give them the edge in the forthcoming Super League season.

While learning about team ‘cultures’ and training methods will undoutably help Wolves physically prepare for the rigours of the league, fans will perhaps be more interested to know the tactical nuances and plays that will make Wolves a more dangerous team to play and more interesting team to watch.

“We had another excellent visit with Sydney Swans and each and every one of the clubs have offered us something along the line that we will be able to draw on throughout the season,” said Smith.

“Things that we can look at again, some kicks, some plays and stuff that we didn’t know before that will help us be a better team.

“And not only that, but we have picked up some signs when working alongside these clubs that we are already doing well as a squad.”
