WARRINGTON Wolves’ pre-season training camp is kicking into top gear this week, as they prepare to train with three different NRL clubs in as many days.

Having already completed what he described as ‘really tough session’ alongside the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Friday and a morning with the Bondi Rescue Lifeguards today, Tuesday, Wolves’ new number six Stefan Ratchford is under no illusions that the next four days will be the hardest they have experienced since arriving in Australia last week.

“We just spent the morning with the Bondi Beach rescue team and have got sessions with the AFL team Sydney Swans tomorrow,” said the 25-year-old, who is back in full training after undergoing an ankle operation shortly after last year’s Grand Final.

“Then we have the Manly Sea Eagles on Thursday, St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday and a session with the Sydney Roosters on Saturday.

“So we have got a really intense week of training coming up, and all the lads are really looking forward to it.

“We have been lucky enough to come over here just to train, which is quite a big thing on its own, but to come and train with some of the NRL clubs has been brilliant.

“Just to get the opportunity to see how they train and spend time within those set-ups is going to benefit us as a team.”

If their trip to the Redfern Oval is anything to go by, Wolves will be using these sessions not only to get a glimpse of NRL pre-season training methods, but also as a chance to test their new-look side against top quality opposition.

“We had a couple of opposed games with 13 on 13 and a hard conditioning session in the middle of it, which their trainer had come up with as a fairly typical session,” said Ratchford, who will likely be stepping into the stand-off void left behind by Lee Briers’ retirement last year.

“It is massively important for us to get as much field work as we can, considering the changes that we have made for 2014.

“Not only are there lots of changes in personnel, but also changes in key positions like the halves, full back etc.

“The more work we can do together as a team can only help, so doing it against an NRL team of their quality will be useful.

“If we can get it right against them we can get it right against anyone.”
