TRAINING in Australia is nothing new for Wolves' Matty Russell.

He spent last season in Queensland with Gold Coast Titans, joining them for a year after leaving hometown club Wigan Warriors.

Now the Scotland World Cup full back's getting to know 28 of his Wolves teammates better - as well as the club's coaching and backroom staff - on the 21-day training camp in Sydney.

While the Australian summer weather and lifestyle is also nothing new for him, he is looking forward to the training sessions Wolves will undertake with various professional sports clubs, not least NRL Champions Sydney Roosters and Australian Rules Football club, the Sydney Swans.

“It is different in Australia because of the conditions mostly,” said the 20-year-old.

“A lot of the training styles are the same, it is just that the Aussie teams will usually be able to get more time on the field than we might over in England.

“Apart from the extra work we are doing, it is always good to observe things that other teams do in their pre-season.

“Whether it is stuff that the coaches can take on board or the players seeing how teams like the Roosters and Swans prepare.

“I think everyone will find something that they can use to improve, so it'll be helpful to get involved with them.”
