WARRINGTON Wolves’ on-loan centre James Saltonstall hopes that he can turn his four-week stint at Bradford Bulls into a Super League debut.

The 20-year-old outside back, who was named in Italy’s World Cup squad and played in Wolves’ recent friendly victory over Widnes, has struggled to make his mark in a strongly competitive Warrington squad.

But the Halifax resident believes his month-long loan at Bulls can flourish into a first team appearance and give him his first taste of Super League action.

“I’m 20 now so it’s time to kick on and hopefully I can get a chance here and take it from there,” he said.

“If I can play well in the friendlies and make a good impression, then we can see what that leads to.

“It’s a good opportunity to get some game-time and show what I can do.

““Warrington have obviously got a lot of depth in their squad, so hopefully if I get a chance here then I can take it and get a few Super League games under my belt.”

Along with fellow Wolves youngsters Joe Philbin and Tom Walker, Saltonstall is hoping to impress Bradford boss Francis Cummins enough to extend his stay beyond the start of the 2014 Super League season and follow in the footsteps of Matty Blythe and Ben Evans into Bulls’ starting line-up.

But first the trio must impress during Bradford’s forthcoming friendlies against Hull FC, Dewsbury and Castleford.

“Franny has said it’s all about having a good attitude and when you get your chance, go out and take it,” said Saltonstall.

“I just need to impress the coaches at Bradford and see where it takes me.

“Joe and Tom are a couple of young kids just learning their way in the full-time environment, so hopefully it will improve them and they will be able to kick on as well.

“Everyone has made us feel really welcome and the training has been very good. I can’t fault it.”
