Adrian Morley to play a part in Warrington Wolves' 2014 preparations

Warrington Guardian: Former Warrington Wolves skipper Adrian Morley Former Warrington Wolves skipper Adrian Morley

WOLVES’ preparations for another tilt at the elusive Super League title are clearer this week.

A training camp in Australia, announced in October, will be the prelude to a final warm-up game ahead of the competition’s start.

And it means departed captain Adrian Morley, gutted to have not got his hands on the Super League silverware for Warrington in Grand Finals at Old Trafford in 2012 and 2013, will be playing a part in Wolves’ pre-season after all.

For Morley, the only man in history to have skippered Wolves to three Challenge Cup successes, will be making an early return to The Halliwell Jones Stadium in his new position as captain of Salford Red Devils.

Wolves will face Brian Noble’s much changed Salford side in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, February 5, kick off 8pm.

Veteran Morley, England stand off Rangi Chase, Australian scrum half Tim Smith, Samoa forward Tony Puletua and his ex-St Helens teammate Francis Meli will all be in the running to figure against Tony Smith’s new-look Wolves, who will be expected to hand debuts to former New Zealand prop Roy Asotasi and Scotland full back Matty Russell that night.

Where has all the money gone ? With Briers. Morley, Carvell, Hodgson and more going yonder then what has happened to the Sa.lary cap monies ? Is about time we splashed some f the considerable gate receipts on a couple of world class players.

What do you think is paying for chris hills contract extension? And Roy asotasi isn't playing for free, then Glenn Riley now has a full time contract, I'm guessing a few of the other extensions have come with an increase in wage too so I wouldn't imagine there's a lot left to splash. Keep the faith with the re building program in place and I believe we will be there or there abouts again come August/October time.

Does anyone seriously believe the savings on Briers,Morley,Carvel
l,Hodgson,Cooper,McC
arthy will be used up on the new signings. I have no idea what Smith has planned but we over achieved last year with an aging squad, and i worry what damage will be done to the likes of Westwood and Hill without the addition of at least one other top class hardened pro. Roy A's record in terms of injury does not make good reading!
Still be there whatever.
Must say thanks to all departing and especially to Briers for his efforts in the knowledge he was carrying a serious injury. And why oh why have we let Carvell go?

My point is I don't see much loss in the pack, and the only loss in the back line is briers. Asotasi is probably the marquee signing for 2014 but for me it's chris hill. Getting him to sign to another few years is genius work by the club, add to that the potential of Riley and England, then Paul Wood who had a fantastic year in 2013 there isn't a lot lost from the front row. Regards the backs, briers is still kicking about the club so the ideas won't be lost, and Ratchford can work off the cuff as well as most others out there.
