Keeping it in the Warrington Wolves family

WARRINGTON Wolves have promoted Academy under 19 stars Joe Philbin and Tom Walker to the first team training squad for the forthcoming 2014 Super League season.
Second rower Philbin and prop Walker, both aged 18, have impressed Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith with their contributions to Wolves’ Academy title challenge this season and will both benefit from working alongside the squad’s more senior players in a full-time environment next year.
Smith said: “It is keeping in line with what we’ve done here for a long time now, bringing the young players through to help develop them for their future.
“I’m really excited about both these boys; they’ve had a tremendous season and we are looking forward to working with them on a full-time basis.
“You’ve got to be pretty special to get the call-up; I’m sure we’ll see them in the Warrington first team in years to come.”
Philbin played his junior rugby at Culcheth Eagles and Latchford Albion, earning England Academy call-ups along the way, and was the only player in Wolves’ under 19s to play in every one of their 28 games this season.
He is also pretty handy going forward, too, ranking third in the try-scorer list with an impressive 18.
Walker came through the ranks at hometown club Cockermouth Titans and spent a brief stint at Workington Town before joining Wolves, and along with Philbin represented England at under 18s level.
