Warrington Wolves' James Saltonstall selected for Italy against England
12:55pm Friday 18th October 2013 in Wolves news
WARRINGTON Wolves rising star James Saltonstall has been handed the senior opportunity of his rugby league career so far.
The 20-year-old has been named on the left wing for Italy in their World Cup warm-up clash with England at Salford City Stadium tomorrow, Saturday.
He will play outside Sydney Roosters' Grand Final winning second rower Aiden Guerra in what is otherwise an all NRL threequarter line.
Versatile Saltonstall was the star of the show at full back as Italy defeated Germany 66-30 in 36 degree heat in Karlsruhe in July, but that role has now gone to The Azurri skipper and Australian superstar Anthony Minichiello - the other Roosters man in the line-up.
Saltonstall, who has also figured for Wolves academy teams in the halves, at centre and back rower and who toured Australia with England Academy last year, produced a man-of-the-match performance against Germany to keep Italy's hopes alive of winning the European Shield.
The Halifax man has been named in Wolves' 19-man Syper League squad several times this year but is yet to make his first-team debut, but was among the try scorers against Germany. However, on Saturday, he will also have his work cut out marking England and Leeds Rhinos try king Ryan Hall.
It will be the first ever senior international between the two nations.
Tomorrow is the first opportunity for England fans to catch sight of the host nation’s NRL-based stars with Sam and George Burgess, James Graham and Gareth Widdop all involved in the side that plays Italy, and Tom Burgess starting at prop for England Knights against Samoa in the curtain-raiser.
Wolves' Chris Hill is on the bench for the clash with Italy.
England Knights and Samoa kick off at 2pm, with England v Italy following on at 4.30pm.
The Italy team to face England at Salford City Stadium tomorrow is:
