Bob Jackson: 'Good luck Wire!'
LIKE other Warrington Wolves past players, this weekend's Grand Final clash with Wigan Warriors is evoking all kinds of memories and emotions.
And, like Bob Eccles, Gary Sanderson, Paul Cullen, Tony Humhries and Mark Forster have already highlighted in earlier stories this week, the Premiership Trophy Final at Old Trafford in 1987 is in Jacko's thoughts at this time.
Jacko, now back home in Australia and wishing 'Good luck Wire' to the team for Saturday's showdown at Old Trafford, said: "My main memories of that game was of the great atmosphere as it was a "double header" with the Second division game before us and a sellout crowd at Old Trafford.
"I do remember Sandy (Gary Sanderson) being disallowed that try next to the sticks and Bish (Paul Bishop) missed a couple of kicks that he would normally have got.
"I got the captain's job as Les (Les Boyd) had broken his arm which was a great honour but we gave it our all and just came up short.
"Andy Greg (Gregory) came up with one of his great plays where he chipped over the top just outside of the 25 and Ellery Hanley gathered and danced with Johnno (Brian Johnson) for about 50 metres to score.
"It was another game against Wigan where we all put in and just came up short but I was enormously proud of our guys.
"All the best to everyone and that you enjoy a great Wire victory on Saturday night!"
