WARRINGTON Wolves are facing “the toughest decision in the history of ClubCall”, according to RFL chief executive Nigel Wood.
Wolves took a significant step towards the Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon with a 40-20 victory over Leeds Rhinos in a reverse of last year’s Grand Final result, securing the right to select their opponents in the last round of the play-offs.
ClubCall allows the highest ranked winners from the opening week of the play-offs to choose who they play in their next match for the right to grace the Grand Final stage on Saturday, October 5 kick off 6.00pm.
Warrington will announce their decision on Sunday at a special ClubCall event that will be broadcast live on Sky Sports News at noon.
“I would like to congratulate all the clubs who have progressed to the second week of what has all the makings of the most intriguing Super League play-off series we have ever witnessed,” said Wood.
“Warrington and Wigan merit special mention, Wolves for what I’m sure will be a deeply satisfactory win against the defending champions, and the Warriors for toppling the 2013 League Leaders.
“Both clubs have a hard-earned weekend off and it now falls to Warrington to choose who they play in two weeks’ time.
"In many ways this is going to be the toughest decision in the history of ClubCall.”
Warrington will choose from the winners of this week’s preliminary semi-finals, Huddersfield Giants v Hull FC on Thursday September 19 and Leeds Rhinos v St Helens on Friday September 20.
In the last two seasons the club that has been ClubCalled, Leeds Rhinos, have used their selection as extra motivation to go on and be crowned champions.
Having finished the regular seasons in fifth position in both 2011 and 2012, Leeds were ClubCalled by Warrington and then again by Wigan Warriors the following year.
This week’s Super League preliminary semi-finals schedule is as follows:
Thursday, September 19: Huddersfield Giants v Hull FC (8.00pm) – winners to ClubCall, losers eliminated.
Friday, September 20: Leeds Rhinos v St Helens (8.00pm) – winners to ClubCall, losers eliminated.
Sunday, September 22: Super League ClubCall (12.00).
The schedule for Week 3 of the 2013 Super League play-offs is:
Thursday September 26: Warrington Wolves v ClubCalled preliminary semi-final winner (8.00pm) – winners to Grand Final, losers eliminated.
Friday September 27: Wigan Warriors v Non-ClubCalled preliminary semi-final winner (8.00pm) – winners to Grand Final, losers eliminated.
