CATALAN v WOLVES: Injury news update
LEE Briers and Trent Waterhouse were both taken off in the final quarter of Warrington Wolves’ win against Catalan Dragons.
But it appears all four should be available for selection when Wolves entertain champions Leeds Rhinos in the opening game of the play-offs at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday.
Smith said: “Lee Briers copped a knock in the first half but he’ll be all right. Taking him off was more precautionary than anything else.
“I took him off with 20 minutes to go, getting him ready for next week. And it was the same with Trent Waterhouse, who I thought was back to some of his best footy and did a lot of work.
“It wasn’t a case with those decisions that we didn;t want to win, but we were protecting some people who probably needed to be looked after.
“Overall we’ve come through the Catalan game pretty good.
“Joel Monaghan was a late pull-out of this game and didn’t end up bringing him.
“And Ben Harrison, who didn’t play, should be fit for next week too. Not bringing him was a bit of a precautionary measure, protecting him from the travel with his injury (hip).
“Joel had a bit of a back spasm. It was loosening off but we didn’t want to put him on a trek with all the travelling either.”
If there are no overnight reactions to the players’ bumps and bruises, then it looks like Wolves will have every squad player available except Richie Myler for next Saturday’s 2012 Grand Final repeat with Leeds.
Wolves will have a warm-down training session on Sunday morning before flying back to England early afternoon.
Smith said: “We’ll all be back in our own beds on Sunday night and then back in training on Monday ready to go for the Leeds game.”
