4:40pm Friday 6th September 2013 in Wolves news
FANCY bumping into you?
Comrades on the first Woolston Rovers tour across the Channel 25 years ago shared an hour of memories yesterday after a chance meeting at a French bar owned by a former international rugby league star.
They were both in Canet, south of France, in preparation for Warrington Wolves’ final league game of the season against Catalan Dragons tomorrow.
Harold Crank, aged 70, who has a senior role with Wolves sponsors Total Fabrication, remains in place as ‘Mr Woolston Rovers’ and was president of the pioneering Rovers trip in 1988.
Mike Parsons, aged 44, Warrington Guardian’s sports editor, was coach of the under 16s team for that two-week excursion.
Harry is enjoying a short break in Perpignan’s beach resort with his family, while Mike is reporting on the weekend’s events with chief photographer Mike Boden.
After bumping into each other yesterday, they caught up at Le Wembley Bar – owned by former France international stand off Jacques Jorda, who was also coach of France for their rugby league team’s tour of Australia in 1990.
