CATALAN v WOLVES: Dragons are ready for battle
STADE Gilbert Brutus is looking resplendent ahead of tomorrow’s clash between Warrington Wolves and Catalan Dragons.
Final preparations are being made, including watering of a pitch that is looking pretty lush considering the hot summer in the south of France.
Australian Test legend Steve Menzies, who had a fabulous career with Manly before switching to Bradford Bulls and then Catalan, will be paying farewell to the Dragons fans in what will be his final home league game before retiring. He’s been on the pitch today for interviews with the local media.
And it will also be a farewell performance for Dragons skipper Remi Casty, who will be playing in the NRL with Sydney Roosters next season.
Club press officer Yannick Rey said: “It’s going to be a big party for them both.”
An attendance of 10,000 is expected, but Dragons chiefs say that will depend on the weather. If it turns sour, some of the locals may be put off.
Today, temperatures have reached 31 degrees in Perpignan, but the city looks a little surreal without the primrose and blue invasion.
Some fans will be arriving later today but the majority have based themselves in southern Spain resorts and will travel in by bus for the day, tomorrow.
