New contracts for 11 Warrington Wolves players
THE Monaghan brothers, England internationals, experienced stars and rising forces are among the 11 full-time players to have signed new contracts with Warrington Wolves.
For players like Michael Monaghan, Paul Wood, Micky Higham and Chris Riley, the deals secure their services for at least another year before their existing terms had run out in November.
While for others, such as Joel Monaghan, Ryan Atkins, Simon Grix and Ben Harrison, they have put pen to paper on renegotiated contracts despite having at least one more season to go on the club's books.
It is the news many Wolves fans have been waiting for, following speculation for much of the year that a number of the players mentioned could be heading to pastures new.
It means Aussie try machine Joel Monaghan and up-and-coming prop Glenn Riley, whom had both been the centre of speculation for switching to the NRL in the near future, will both remain at the Wolves until at least November, 2016.
Micky Higham, Paul Wood, Chris Riley, Ryan Shaw and Danny Bridge have all agreed two-year contract extensions until the end of 2015, while hooker Michael Monaghan has confirmed a further one-year stay.
Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “We are delighted to be retaining the stability of our squad and we are really pleased that these players are staying on to help continue to build this great club.
"The fact that we are getting stronger as a squad each year has probably been shown by the number of consecutive wins we’ve had recently.
"It has shown that we are still improving and we are striving to get better and better each year.
"We’ve got some terrific young players coming through and the consistency of our senior players has been fantastic as well.
"We are delighted that we will only have a small turnover of players once again; that’s the way we like it at Warrington.”
