HOLDERS Warrington Wolves cruised into Monday’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup fifth round draw with their biggest win of the season so far.

Brett Hodgson started the competition as he finished last season’s, with the 2012 Lance Todd Trophy winner notching the man of the match award with a 26-point contribution from 11 goals and one try.

The full back had a hand in a stack of the other dozen scores too on a day when Wolves had too much power, pace and skill for the Championship part timers.

Ryan Atkins showed his finishing prowess with a quartet of tries, while wingers Chris Riley and Rhys Williams chipped in with a brace.

And there was a try for 19-year-old Glenn Riley on his debut after some impressive performances for partner club Swinton Lions.

In truth, the tie was over within 16 minutes as Wolves took an 18-0 lead while playing up the slope against the wind and with the sun in their eyes.

But the floodgates did not open until the start of the second half when the elements were in their favour.

Wolves, leading 26-0 at the break, scored six tries in the opening 14 minutes of the second half with replacement hooker Michael Monaghan producing some extra spark from dummy half against the tiring part timers.

Wolves opened their account in the eighth minute when Trent Waterhouse sent Chris Riley clear and the winger rounded full back Paul White to complete an 80-metre score converted by Brett Hodgson.

Richie Barnett got his arm in the way of Joel Monaghan’s pass that would have put Rhys Williams over but in the next set from the scrum Ryan Atkins burrowed over from dummy half and Hodgson improved again for 12-0 after 12 minutes.

A Keighley break came to nothing due to a wild offload and Waterhouse made them pay when he crashed over from an inside pass supplied by Hodgson, who converted to keep up the point per minute scoring rate.

But there was a 12-minute wait for the next score which arrived courtesy of Atkins getting on the end of a passing combination between Hodgson and Waterhouse, making it 22-0 after 28 minutes.

Swift handling to the right through the hands of Richie Myler and Joel Monaghan created space for Rhys Williams to dart over by the corner flag and push the advantage to 26-0 after 37 minutes.

It took just two minutes of the second half for Wolves to cross for try number six through Williams, who cashed in on the handling of Hodgson and Myler. Hodgson’s extras made it 32-0.

Two minutes later half-time substitute Michael Monaghan set Waterhouse free down the left and he provided a perfect pass to beat full back White and send Atkins away for his hat-trick. Hodgson banged over the extras.

Michael Monaghan was at it again two minutes later, this time opening Keighley up for Ben Currie to break and fire home Myler. Hodgson’s conversion took the score on to 44-0 after 46 minutes.

Atkins grabbed his fourth try three minutes later, blocking Paul March’s grubber kick and scooting home from 80 metres. Again Hodgson goaled.

Hodgson, Tyrone McCarthy and Atkins were all involved as Chris Riley walked over for try number 10 in the 52nd minute, with Hodgson booting Wolves to a 56-0 lead.

Michael Monaghan popped up a lovely pass for Gareth O’Brien to hare away and he stepped out of White’s challenge to finish the job. Hodgson added the goal, 62-0.

Keighley ensured there would be no ‘nilling’ when Ben Sagar picked up a loose pass from March and offloaded for White to cross from close range. Danny Jones missed the conversion from close in.

Normal service resumed quickly with Glenn Riley’s debut try, powering through a hole off Williams after the winger’s sideways run. Hodgson’s 10th kick made it 68-4 after 60 minutes.

Hodgson started and finished the next try, supporting well after sending Currie away and taking the final pass off Myler. The full back banged over the conversion for 74-4 after 68 minutes and that is how it stayed.
