Warrington Wolves' Academy coach praises hard work of comeback kids

Chambers: Hard work pays off Chambers: Hard work pays off

WOLVES’ under 19s coach Gary Chambers believes his young side’s spirited comeback against Hull KR was a just reward for the work they had put in all week in training.

Warrington’s Academy side fought back from a 27-12 deficit to record an impressive 46-27 victory against Hull KR, and after an up and down start to the season Chambers believes his side are starting the reap the benefits of the training pitch practice.

“That really was a great payback for a tough week in training,” he said.

“We spoke all along that the harder you work then the greater the reward will be.

“We did make it more difficult for ourselves at times but we found a way to win from a perilous position and that shows what great character and camaraderie we have in our squad, with everybody wanting to play for each other and put their bodies on the line.

“Some of the younger players will have never been in that situation and they now know that if you stick to the gameplan then you will get the right results in the end.”

Several players stood out for Chambers in a game littered with try scorers, and he will hope his young side will gain confidence from the win ahead of the visit of fierce rivals St Helens on Saturday, kick off 2pm.

“Jonny Brown really rolled his sleeves up today and did some tough stuff that helped us get back into the game,” he said.

“Declan Patton stepped up to the mark with a great kicking game at crucial times that allowed us to execute our plays.

“Joe Philbin once again showed how destructive he can be when he is running onto the ball and he now needs to focus on what he does when he is not on the ball.

“We can now take a bit of a good feeling into training on Monday as we prepare for a mouth-watering clash with St. Helens at Wilderspool Stadium.

“We will be working very hard to put the little things right so that we are in the best possible position to give a good account of ourselves.”
