Warrington Wolves' Ben Currie strikes twice on Swinton Lions debut
6:40pm Sunday 17th February 2013 in Wolves news
BEN Currie scored two tries on his Swinton Lions debut in a remarkable clash with Sheffield Eagles at Leigh Sports Village today.
Currie’s first try three minutes into the second half added to a 11th-minute effort from Warrington teammate Ryan Shaw, who also kicked three goals, as Steve McCormack’s side built a 14-6 lead.
But the Yorkshiremen ran in a sensational 46 points in the final 30 minutes to record a 52-20 victory.
Swinton, who also fielded Warrington’s Jordan Bukre on the right wing, James Mendeika at stand off, Brad Dwyer at hooker, Tyrone McCarthy alongside Currie in the second row and Dany Bridge at loose forward, are still without a win in the Kingstone Press Championship this year.
Currie’s second converted try, which confirmed Wolves players had scored all of Swinton’s points in the game, came when Mark Aston’s men were already 34-14 in front.
Wolves' players are either figuring for partner club Swinton on dual registration terms or on season-long signings.
More Wolves players have been in action this weekend.
Gareth O’Brien lasted only three minutes of his loan debut with Castleford Tigers in their clash at Bradford Bulls on Saturday.
After a fine pass sent centre Jake Webster away O’Brien was challenged late by Bradford prop Nick Scruton and had to leave the field in a dazed state.
The 21-year-old scrum half returned to the action early in the second half but Bradford, aided by a third try in three matches from season-long Warrington loan recruit Matty Blythe, went on to record a 38-12 success.
Welsh international Rhys Williams was at centre in his third game on loan for Salford, who were defeated 42-14 at champions Leeds Rhinos.
