WOLVES under 19s head coach Gary Chambers said he could not fault his players for effort in Saturday's 34-6 defeat at Wigan.

“That was a very tough encounter in trying conditions and we were made to pay for our errors," he said.

"I cannot fault the effort of the lads. It was a full bodied encounter with nothing being given from either team.

"We need to learn to be smarter against quality teams like Wigan. They are a very good side with plenty of experience and we were certainly not disgraced in anyway.

"The score doesn’t represent the game and the Wigan players acknowledged how physical it had been out there.

"We have a lot of new players and we will keep improving each week.

"A special mention must go to Toby King who came on in the second half and looked very lively in attack and defence, making some good choices that helped us to have Wigan on the back foot for long periods.

"It was a tough ask for a young lad to go in at that intensity but he did very well and will benefit immensely from it.

"We will now look forward to next Saturday when we entertain Featherstone Rovers."

Kick off is 2pm at Wilderspool Stadium.
