Warrington Wolves' Paul Wood and Tyrone McCarthy in defeat with Swinton Lions against Workington Town

PAUL Wood and Tyrone McCarthy were among eight Warrington Wolves players unable to help Swinton Lions get the Championship season off to a winning start.

Steve McCormack's side fell 14-10 at Leigh Sports Village after a try from full-time Wolves pro James Laithwaite helped to give Lions a 6-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Ryan Shaw, who kicked a conversion, James Mendeika, Gene Ormsby, Glenn Riley and Danny Bridge were the other Wolves men involved.

Swinton are Wolves' partner club and five players are permitted to figure for Lions on dual registration in any one game.

Some of the Wolves players involved are currently solely registered with Swinton.
