SEVEN Warrington Wolves players represented Swinton Lions during their 52-12 pre-season friendly defeat to Super League neighbours Salford City Reds. Brad Dwyer, Jordan Burke, Ryan Shaw, Danny Bridge, Gavin Bennion, Gene Ormsby and Jack Morrison - five of whom played in Wolves' 30-22 Boxing Day win over Widnes Vikings - featured in the heavy loss to financially-stricken Salford on Sunday after becoming dual-registered with Wolves’ Championship partners. Only five of those who have dual-registered will be able to play in a Championship game on any given week, with that decision likely to be made by both Wolves' head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith and Lions coach Steve McCormack on a week-to-week basis. At 21, full back Jordan Burke is the eldest of the seven players in the mix. The former Rylands amateur, who made his Wolves first-team debut in the Challenge Cup fourth-round win at Keighley during 2012, is one of several players that is likely to benefit most from the dual-registration process as he is too old to play in the newly-established under 19s league. Winger Gene Ormsby, prop Jack Morrison and centre Ryan Shaw, all aged 20, also fall into that category, though forwards Gavin Bennion, Danny Bridge and Brad Dwyer, all aged 19, will have the added option of playing for Wolves' 2013 academy side under the new rules. Swinton were indebted to players with a Wolves connection for their two tries against the Super League club, with former Warrington youngster Danny Birkett getting on the scoresheet in the 56th minute before Wolves' Valvoline Cup winning hooker Dwyer scored a consolation try in the final moments of the game. Both were converted by Shaw. Another former Wolves youngster Liam Hulme figured at hooker for Lions. Meanwhile, there is bad news for Wolves’ international Welsh forward Ben Evans, who has been forced to undergo surgery to fix a persistent hip injury. The 20-year-old, who signed a 12-month loan deal with Super League rivals Bradford Bulls, is likely to be out of action for up to four months.
