ADRIAN Morley has revealed how his 2012 season came close to being derailed – by a pair of joyriders.

The Wolves skipper makes the admission in his explosive autobiography Moz, which is launched today and released nationwide on Monday.

Morley is set to play for England against France in the autumn series final tomorrow at the end of a campaign in which he helped Warrington to their third Challenge Cup triumph in four years.

Yet he feared he may have to quit the game after a car crash earlier this season, while he was sidelined because of a shoulder injury.

“A car ploughed straight into the side of us,” he reveals in Moz.

“I went into autopilot. I asked how everyone was, got out of the car, assessed the damage – both doors were caved in – and went over to the car that had bulleted straight into us.

“There were two lads inside, who were 20. Maybe 21. I asked if they were okay. I walked back to get my phone. ‘Aje!’

“I turned to see my brother, Chris, dart from my passenger seat. Ahead of him, I could see the two lads – they had done a runner. Without thinking, I took off after them.

“Chris and I were both wearing tuxedos and smart black shoes, but we still got up to a decent pace.

“They detoured to the left, leaping over a fence into a back garden. I followed them. I leapt, cleared the top, and landed on the ground. And that’s when I knew I was in trouble.

“My heel landed awkwardly, an instant ache that told me something wasn’t right. I surrendered the chase.

“The following day, I told Tony (Smith) my heel wasn’t right. I’d stumbled while running. I left out the bit about me being dressed in a tuxedo.”

Morley recovered in time for the Magic game against Widnes but his latest setback, so soon after his eye problem, led to him debate  retirement.

“All of a sudden, I started doubting myself, thinking ‘Am I too old? Am I past it?’ ” he writes.
