WOLVES got their act together in the end.

A little like the previous week's win against Wakefield Trinity, Steve Price's side were a far more formidable force against Widnes Vikings on Good Friday after a few words at half time.

Opportunities were squandered in the opening period, debut boy Josh Charnley expressing as much on a few occasions by throwing his arms about after screams for the ball from his two-try centre Toby King fell flat.

And 'flat' was the key word as the game lacked 'derby' ferocity early doors but the performance bloomed like the town's Easter daffodils after the break.

Wolves' intent blossomed and a lovely bunch of tries sent the primrose and blue army home happy.

A delicious debut double from Charnley got the taste buds racing, a spectacular first in Wire colours from Sita Akauola raised the roof and the ever-popular Bennie Westwood lived up to his 'Super' tag with the final score for a smart angled run.

It was from clean early ball in space provided by King that Charnley was able to deliver the maiden tries that the majority inside the stadium wanted – and to make amends for the two that ex-Crosfields man Ed Chamberlain scored past him in the first stanza.

Charnley's finishes, in his first game of any code for two months, were exceptional, ducking his shoulder to defy strong challenges from covering defenders before diving over with defenders hanging off him by the corner post.

His converted first, a minute into the second half, was key in setting the tone for the rest of the game, putting The Wire ahead for the first time.

And Wolves' fresh burst of zest was embellished when Akauola swooped on the second charge-down of a last play to run in from 30 metres like a runaway train, smashing all obstacles in the way.

Akauola, like Joe Philbin and Ben Murdoch-Masila, played a huge part in the win with their impact off their bench as destructive runners.

And half-backs Tyrone Roberts and Kevin Brown were key too as their partnership continues to grow.

Roberts' blind back-door flip pass to King for Wire's opening score was a delight, three tries came from Brown kicks and they made sure there was no panic in the ranks after falling behind early on.
